Writing styles

Every review or reply an agent drafts for you is written in one writing style. Three presets ship in the mattstack plugin:

PresetVoice
mattstack:writing-style-conversationalShort, friendly sentences in sentence case, like talking to a teammate. This is the default.
mattstack:writing-style-sparseTerse, lowercase technical prose, one tight paragraph per point.
mattstack:writing-style-structuredLabelled lines and short bullets, for teams that prefer formal write-ups.

They cover review comments, replies, PR descriptions and commit messages posted under your name.

Rules every style shares

The preset sets the voice; a shared floor binds all three. Among other things, a draft never uses em or en dashes, praise or thanks as an opener, or corporate filler, and it compresses the first draft before posting. A review summary is one line, each finding is its own comment anchored to an exact file.ts:123, and code you suggest goes in a fenced block rather than inline.

Choose one

Which style applies is resolved in this order: the skills.writingStyle setting (your user scope beats the team's), then a writing-style: line in ~/.mattstack/user/skills/preferences.md, then mattstack:writing-style-conversational.

bash
rt skills writing-style show # the style in use, and where it comes from
rt skills writing-style list # the three presets, plus your own and installed styles
rt skills writing-style use mattstack:writing-style-sparse # choose one, by its full skill id
rt skills writing-style new my-voice # start your own from a preset
  • use takes a preset or any installed skill id, and refuses an id that is not installed. --scope team sets the team default instead of your own.
  • new copies a preset (the conversational one unless you pass --from) into a skill of your own, in your home repo.

The setup checklist's skills.writing-style row is finish-gated and not waivable, so a Mac with no resolvable style cannot finish setup. The full command list is under rt skills writing-style.
